New York, NY (June 16, 2015) – Lippincott, a leading global branding firm announced that Brendán Murphy, a senior design partner, has written and illustrated a new children’s book published by Disney-Hyperion. Ready for School, Murphy? follows little Murphy as he makes up excuses about staying home from school. Through delightful illustrations and a relatable, humorous story, “Ready for School, Murphy?” will help parents and teachers start a dialogue with children aged 3-5 about facing their fears.
Ready for School, Murphy? is the first book published for Murphy, who has been a designer at Lippincott for close to twenty years. The story is based on his own experiences growing up as a child in Dublin, Ireland and Murphy’s own imaginative two boys. The illustrations are inspired by bright and playful Colorform stickers and give life to spiky-haired, big-eyed Murphy.
“Writing and illustrating Ready for School, Murphy? has been a unique learning opportunity,” said Murphy. “I’ve been so lucky to have worked in design for more than thirty years alongside some of the world’s most recognizable brands. But having the chance to work with a wonderful editor at Disney has given me new insights into the dimensions of story and character, and helped me stay playful, open minded and imaginative. This gives my family something to share in the years to come.”
Murphy hopes that Ready for School, Murphy? will be the first in a series of children’s books, as he continues to draw inspiration from his family and experiences. The book has already received positive reviews and is available starting today online and at local book stores nationwide.
