Most people find the word “beta” synonymous with “unfinished.” But, the beauty of the world wide web is that it’s never finished. Today’s sites are so fluid and adaptable that they almost feel alive.
This makes “beta” a scary word. Why release something that’s not done? For a firm that values design-led processes, however, “final” is equally scary. Building a website — like building anything — requires time. And from start to finish, whether it’s a year or 6 months or 6 weeks, things change. Unfinished simply means constantly evolving. Web is agile, and so are we. The question is, really, why wait?
This beta, however, is next-level unfinished. Of course we’ll continue adding new cases, articles and perspectives. But we’ll also create new sections to better connect you with our latest work and the people that power it. From the principles of design doing to the secret science of happiness, and the story behind the Starbucks siren to a mobile strategy for millennials, there’s a lot here and even more to come. We hope you’ll keep coming back to discover new things and will share our delight in this new living, breathing expression of Lippincott.
So please enjoy our never-finished-beta knowing it’s not our intent to put a bow on it. Just as Marie Kondo advises sock drawers first be completely emptied onto the ground, we know that change is messy, but that for progress, change is necessary. This is why we’ll keep evolving this beta, without plans to tidy up any time soon. Happy browsing!
